As the calendar turns to a fresh year, it feels like opening a blank canvas filled with infinite possibilities. There’s something inherently magical about this time—a chance to set intentions, dream big, and approach the unknown with courage and optimism. For this first post of 2025, I want to share five quotes that have inspired me deeply, three of which hold a special place in my studio and my heart. I hope they spark the same sense of hope and motivation in you as they do for me.🗝️✨💖
1. “If one advances confidently in the direction of his dreams, and endeavors to live the life which he has imagined, he will meet with a success unexpected in common hours.” ~ Henry David Thoreau
🌞This quote, taken from Thoreau’s Walden, has been a guiding light in my creative journey. It speaks to the power of moving forward with confidence, even when the path is unclear. Every time I enter my studio and read these words, I’m reminded to trust my vision, take bold steps, and embrace the unexpected gifts that come from following my artistic dreams. Whether it’s a new series of paintings or an idea I’ve been hesitant to explore, Thoreau’s words encourage me to begin with courage.
2. “Shoot for the moon. Even if you miss, you'll land among the stars.” ~ Norman Vincent Peale
✨Dream big—this has always been my mantra as an artist. Peale’s quote is a timeless reminder that even when our aspirations seem far-reaching, the act of striving toward them can lead to incredible results. On challenging days, this quote reminds me that every brushstroke, every creative risk, and every ambitious goal is worth it. Even if the final outcome isn’t what I imagined, the journey itself is full of beauty and discovery.
3. “The magic in new beginnings is truly the most powerful of them all.” ~ Josiyah Martin
🪄There’s an undeniable energy in starting something new. Whether it’s a blank canvas, a new season, or a fresh idea, beginnings hold a spark of possibility that can ignite creativity and hope. This quote resonates with the rhythm of life and art—the beauty of stepping into the unknown, trusting the process, and finding magic in what unfolds. It’s a sentiment I’m carrying with me into 2025, as I continue to explore new ideas and themes in my work.
4. “Birds are the messengers of nature, reminding us to embrace our freedom and soar to new heights.” ~ Unknown
🐦⬛Birds have always inspired me with their grace, freedom, and resilience. As an artist who finds joy in capturing their beauty, this quote feels like a perfect reminder to embrace life’s possibilities and rise above challenges. Watching birds in my own garden reminds me daily to stay hopeful, take flight with my dreams, and enjoy the view along the way.
5. “A walk in nature walks the soul back home.” ~ Unknown
🍃🪺Nature has a way of grounding us, offering peace and perspective in life’s busiest seasons. This quote reminds me of why I often look to the natural world for inspiration in my art. Whether it’s a walk with Gabby, my studio assistant and yorkie, or simply observing the beauty of the Creston Valley, nature always brings clarity and renewed creativity. Research even shows that time in nature reduces stress and boosts creativity—a gift we can all embrace this year.
