2025 Vision: 6 Intentions for a Year of Joyful Creativity

As we move through these first weeks of the year, I find myself reflecting on what brings joy, fulfillment, and inspiration to my creative practice. This year, I’m setting six intentions that nurture not only my art but also my overall well-being and connection to the world around me. These intentions are designed to create space for creativity, reflection, and growth. I hope they inspire you to consider your own practices for cultivating joy and creativity in 2025.

1. Almost Daily Walks in Nature: Grounding, Movement, and Connection

One of my favorite ways to refresh my mind and connect with the natural world is through my almost daily walks in nature. With Gabby, my yorkie and loyal studio assistant, by my side, I explore the beauty of the Creston Valley, finding inspiration for my art while also recharging my spirit. During these colder months, as I await the arrival of spring, I’ve added a weekly yoga class and two one-hour gym workouts to my routine. These activities not only strengthen my body but also provide mental clarity and the chance to connect with others—both of which are essential for fueling creativity.

"In every walk with nature, one receives far more than he seeks." ~ John Muir

2. Morning Gratitude and Affirmations: A Quiet Start to the Day

The first 40 minutes of my day are spent in quiet reflection in my den, before Gabby and my husband awake. I light a candle, which enhances my focus and brings a sense of specialness to the moment, as I practice gratitude and affirmations. With my coffee in hand, I take this time to reflect on what I’m grateful for and set positive intentions for the day ahead. This practice is a daily reminder to savor life’s simple joys and to approach my work and my life with purpose and positivity.

"Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life. It turns what we have into enough." ~ Melody Beattie

3. Monthly Artist Dates: Reflection and Confidence Building

As an artist, it’s important to carve out time for personal reflection and inspiration. One of my favorite rituals is a monthly artist date—a solo outing for coffee or lunch. These moments of quiet contemplation allow me to recharge, reflect on my work, and seek new inspiration. Whether it’s sketching ideas in a café or simply enjoying the ambiance, these solo dates are a confidence boost and a reminder that creativity flourishes when we make time for ourselves.

"Almost everything will work again if you unplug it for a few minutes, including you." ~ Anne Lamott

4. Exploring New Creative Techniques and Sketching with a Local Group

I’m setting the intention to explore new techniques and materials in my art. Whether it’s experimenting with new textures in my mixed media collages or finding fresh ways to incorporate bird and nature themes, stepping out of my comfort zone keeps my creativity alive. As the warmer months approach I look forward to spending more time with local artists sketching in and around the Creston area.

"Creativity takes courage." ~ Henri Matisse

5. Sharing Joy Through Art: Connecting with Others

At the heart of my work is the desire to share joy and beauty with others. This year, I’m focusing on building meaningful connections with my audience—through my art, blog, and social media. I believe art has the power to uplift, inspire, and bring people together. Whether it’s through a painting that brightens a home, a thoughtful art card sent to a friend, or a quote shared on Instagram, my intention is to spread positivity and remind others of the beauty that surrounds us.

"Art is the unceasing effort to compete with the beauty of flowers—and never succeeding." ~ Gian Carlo Menotti

6. Spaciousness: My Word of the Year

This year, I’ve chosen "Spaciousness" as my Word of the Year to guide me in all my endeavors. Spaciousness allows us to breathe, think, create, and connect more clearly with ourselves and others. It also invites us to declutter and organize, making room for fresh, new creative energy and ideas. As I set this intention, I’m inspired to simplify and focus on what truly matters.

If you’re curious about how a Word of the Year can transform your artistic and personal growth, I invite you to revisit my blog post from last January:
