New Mini Bird Paintings: Phlox and Feathers

"I thank you God for this most amazing day, for the leaping greenly spirits of trees, and for the blue dream of sky and for everything which is natural, which is infinite, which is yes." ~ E. Cummings

“Is there anything more magical than watching a hummingbird, seemingly suspended in midair, dip its long beak into a flower or feeder? Sometimes you’ll hear these tiny birds before you see them, their wings making a distinctive whirring sound. When two or more appear together, you may hear the sharp “chattering” as they swoop and dive in a series of aggressive, aerial maneuvers. It’s no wonder that gardeners love to encourage these remarkable acrobats into their gardens”. ~ Garden Design

"A flash of harmless lightning, a mist of rainbow dyes. The burnished sunbeams brightening. From flower to flower he flies."
~ John B. Tabb, The Hummingbird

5"x7" Mini Watercolour Painting

I’m excited to share two new mini bird paintings that are part of my upcoming bird series! These 5x7 watercolor studies, titled Phlox and Feathers and Wings Among the Phlox, celebrate one of my favorite backyard birds—the Broad-tailed Hummingbird—caught in the delicate act of sipping nectar from woodland phlox blossoms.
