I paint realistic watercolor florals and still lifes. Watercolor is an exciting medium. I enjoy the way it flows and dances across the paper. It's luminous qualities, capable of building rich, jewel like colors and textures, make it the perfect medium for me to express myself with.
I refer to the abundance and variety of flowers, fruits and vegetables that grow here in the Creston Valley as "Natures Jewels". Painting still life's is a way for me capture and share the beauty and appreciation I have for these "jewels of nature".
I take comfort in the simplicity of the everyday items we surround ourselves with and pairing these items with "Natures Jewels" suddenly takes them from ordinary to extraordinary. The way the sunlight dances across a rose petal, the glint from a crystal vase, the colors in the shadows of grapes bounced against a white porcelan bowl...these are moments that fill me with joy and awe and creating lasting memories.
Recently, I have taken an interest in creating mandala style paintings. I use layers of transparent color, again, creating rich, jewel toned works of art that also reference to nature.
By painting these "Jewels of Nature", I can extend their beauty thereby gladdening our hearts throught the seasons of our own lives.
